I adore airport homecomings. There is so much excitement and happiness in the air, and anticipation of a family reuniting. That being said, I was elated to be with this family as they reunited at the airport for the first time in many months. I was there for the birth of June earlier this year, and her father left for Afghanistan almost immediately after her birth and hasn’t seen her since.

I just love family events like this.

I’ve been photographing a lot of families lately, and I’ve been loving it! Family photography is very challenging for me, and I learn so much each time I meet a new family client. But most importantly – I have lots of fun! The Cantus are a beautiful family (as you can see) and their children are as sweet as can be.

The Birth of Emery | San Antonio Birth Photography

I’m so happy to share some images from Emery’s birth ~ her entrance into this world didn’t go according to her parents’ plans, but she’s a happy and healthy little girl! Each birth I document is so different, for a variety of reasons. The one thing I will remember most from Emery’s birth is the love in her room and the support from her family. Her birth was covered in prayers and positivity, and it was such a gift for me to get to know this entire family! I always enter the hospital room as a photographer, and I often leave as friend or family. I’m so happy to call this family my friends

Emery’s doctor decided that it was time for this little girl to enter the world via cesarean, so her family gathered around in prayer and support for Emery’s lovely mother. For those who have not experienced a cesarean, it’s a surreal feeling for sure! One minute everything is relaxed, and the next…10 doctors and nurses are in the room prepping for surgery. Emotions run high (a cesarean is no joke…it’s major surgery), text messages to friends and family start flying, and mom prepares to not see her baby for a while after birth.

Little Emery – about one minute old! Shortly after this she headed to the NICU.

I went back to the hospital to capture some family images the day after Emery was born. I know how important is for a mom to get images of them with their baby (after all, that’s why I was hired!) and I don’t think a mother should be deprived of these images because of an unplanned cesarean or separation from baby because of the NICU. I was happy to go back to the hospital for these

Little Emery was born last week – isn’t she just the sweetest!! Her birth had some complications and she had to spend some time in the NICU – while the day didn’t quite turn out the best for photography, all that matters is that she is here and doing well! I got to visit her in the NICU and get a few images, and I wanted to share one now

Little Wyatt is about to turn 1, and I was so excited to photograph his first indulgence in cake. I had so much fun watching him take careful scoops of icing into his hands, and look at his parents as if to say…mine? Doesn’t the blue icing kinda make it look like he accidentally murdered a smurf? :)

This little boy is such a sweet baby, and I’m so thankful that his family returns to me for portraits of his childhood.

Uncommon Fare | San Antonio Urban Grocery Store

I stopped by Uncommon Fare today for a project I’m working on…usually I stop by for yummy food from Tim the Girl, but this time I got to snap some images of this super cool store. I like to shop here for local farm products during the week, as I usually don’t make it to the farmer’s market on the weekends. I’m so glad that local entrepreneurs are taking the plunge to provide downtown San Antonio with urban grocery options!

I love meeting people that have awesome stories. This sweet family is getting ready for a big move to Nicaragua (leaving in less than a week!) to serve as missionaries through their church. They have committed to serving for five years! There was not much time between their decision to move and their actual move date, but in that short time they decided that family portraits were needed. I’m so glad they were referred to me by a mutual friend.

All the best to this great family on their upcoming adventures!

Baby Dax at 3 months | San Antonio Family Photographer

I love this family. They have been in my life for many years, and I’m having such a good time photographing their journey as a family of three. You can see their maternity session here and their newborn session here. Baby Dax is now 3 months old, and he’s filling out and getting the giggles.

First of all, here are their dogs..which I can’t not photograph every time I go to their house:

Ok, I’ll hold back and only post two puppy images, even though I’m fighting the urge!

Now onto baby Dax – ladies, hold on to your ovaries!

I think the last images is my favorite from the session. You can feel the love, and little Dax’s chub is so cute in his mother’s arms. So sweet.

Here’s one last image that is a great outtake – he’s giving his parents too much attitude for a 3 month old!
